Young children are natural scientists and explorers!  In this session, we’ll consider why exploratory play is so valuable for children, discover ways to create indoor and outdoor “learning labs”, and discuss criteria for ensuring that our preschool science and nature activities are engaging and purposeful.

Dramatic play is a great stepping stone for young children to learn self-regulation of their emotions and actions. Participants will discuss ways to create an inviting dramatic play center, methods to encourage dramatic play, and reasons why enhancing dramatic play benefits young children.

The PITC is a relationship based approach that seeks to ensure that America’s infants get a safe, healthy, emotionally secure, and intellectually rich start to life. The PITC focuses on six program policies that enforce their work; primary care, small groups, continuity, individualized care, cultural responsiveness, and inclusion of children with special needs. These policies create an environment that reinforces the relationship based approach. Participants will learn about each of the six program policies as well as ways to implement the PITC philosophy in their classroom.

Learn the value of loose parts and discover how to incorporate loose parts into the learning environment and gain and understanding of how loose parts support curriculum and children’s development.

Art is one discipline where no one way of doing things is right or wrong.  Art is about self-esteem, cognitive development and creativity.  Introduce new materials, but let the child decide how to create their masterpiece.
